Ouija Board – Woodburning… quite literally!
Posted on January 30, 2011
As well as all the other stuff I do, I’ve been getting in to woodburning lately. It’s where you use a heated tool to burn patterns/designs on to a piece of wood. I wanted to do a practical design yet something that would give me practice at the same time. So, I came up with the idea of a ouija board. Not only does it have designs on it, but it has patterns and a full alphabet to let me practice on. Here’s the result:
Quite literally wood burning as once the pattern was in place I charred all the edges using the gas cooker. No, I didn’t set off the smoke alarm (I’m sooo proud!).
The ‘blood’ is just some crimson acrylic paint spattered across it.
The dark finish was done using brown shoe polish as it’s actually done on a light coloured piece of pine wood.
If you want your own faux-oujia board, drop me an email and I’ll send you a price. Depending on the design you want on it, it won’t be expensive.
