Pentel Brush Pen, Sketch Pads, and Brown Ink. Oh my!

Posted on January 14, 2013

Bought some new supplies.

First, I needed a couple of A5 sketch books, so I bought two of them. I also (to spice things up a bit) bought an A5 pad of black paper. To go with the black paper I bought a white pen, and a gold pen. I did buy two other pens, which seem to be bone dry, so they’ll be getting returned. Nice try supplier!

Second, something I’ve often thought about buying, but never got around to it. A Pentel Brush Pen. Saw one for sale on Amazon for £8 (with two ink cartridges) and jumped all over it. It’s basically the same idea as a water brush with ink in it, but this is shaped more like a normal pen and will easily fit in a pocket without leaking. So far I’m impressed with it. The brush tip is a bit shorter than the water brush pen, so it’s a bit easier to control. It also has a more pointed tip which is good. We’ll see how long the pointed tip lasts before going misshapen and for how long one ink cartridge will last. I assume I’ll be able to refill an empty cartridge with ink and an eye dropper…

Last, but certainly not least, some brown ink. Black ink is the norm, so I wanted to try brown ink. I also want to experiment with drawing in brown ink then using diluted brown ink to shade the drawing. So far, it looks really nice. A welcome change from black and grey. But, we’ll see how it looks with maybe black outlines and brown ink shading. Or maybe even brown outlines and black ink shading…
